Pandora is pulling out of Australia, New Zealand

Pandora will cease its operations in Australia and New Zealand, the company recently confirmed.

The beleaguered music streaming service, recently propped up by $480 million USD from satellite radio company SiriusXM, will tighten its purse strings by discontinuing the only non-US regions it supports.

“While our experience in these markets reinforces the broader global opportunity long-term,” Pandora told Billboard, “In the short-term we must remain laser-focused on the expansion of our core business in the United States.”

AdNews reports that 60 Australian and New Zealand staff from offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland will lose their positions due to the closure.

The company’s co-founder and CEO, Tim Westergren, is also stepping down at this time.

A Pandora app is currently available to Xbox One users in Australia and New Zealand.
