Overwatch: You won’t need to play Heroes of the Storm to get those special skins

Overwatch fans without a PC — or lacking the desire to play Heroes of the Storm — can rest easy: its special skins will eventually make their way to in-game Loot Boxes.

At the moment, the Oni Genji and Officer D.Va skins — both shown above — are available exclusively by playing Heroes of the Storm. This will change, Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan recently confirmed.

“We completely understand that there are some players who do not own or have access to a PC to play Heroes of the Storm,” Kaplan said on the game’s official forums. “Because of this, we plan to add both the Oni Genji skin and the Officer D.Va skin to the normal, base Overwatch loot box at some point in the future.”

Kaplan wouldn’t commit to a timeframe, but subtly encouraged those with access to Heroes of the Storm to play it.

“I still encourage anyone with access to a PC to play the Nexus Challenge,” he said. “Heroes of the Storm is an amazing game and you’ll unlock those skins for free and before anyone else.”

Heroes of the Storm is available now on PC. Overwatch is available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
