Overwatch 2 Season 3 new map called Antarctic Peninsula

The Control-style map is bound to send shivers down your spine.

Overwatch 2 Season 3 will add a new Control-type map called Antarctic Peninsula, Blizzard has recently divulged.

The map is the second for the region, following 2016’s Ecopoint: Antarctica arena-type map, and is said to have a little Mei lore thrown in for good measure.

“You can see some hints about what Mei and her team were trying to find out there,” Lead Narrative Designer Gavin Jurgens-Fyhrie said in a group interview (via Polygon), referring to the end of Mei’s animated short, “Rise and Shine”.

“And maybe there are some sort of secrets. I don’t know, maybe you can find something in the map that will tell you something even more exciting about the story to come.”

If you missed “Rise and Shine”, it’s below.

As for the map itself, it’s set in the same lab that Mei worked in and extends to an icebreaker ship sent by the original Overwatch team in an attempt to rescue her.

“It’s just super rad to fight inside an abandoned ship as large as an icebreaker,” said Art Director, Dion Rogers. “If you’re working together, you can call out a lot of very key areas where people are. It’s very clear to understand where that might be, especially if you understand the language of boats. We studied icebreakers pretty well to try to integrate this into the level.”

Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play title available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5 and Switch. Season 3 kicks off on 7 February.
