Outlast 2 patched to include Adult Only content on PC

Outlast 2 on Windows PC via Steam has been patched to include content that would have originally earned it an Adult Only rating.

“We’ve taken the opportunity to reinsert some of the things we had to remove from the original game in order to get an M rating,” developer Red Barrels advised on Steam. “These changes are not drastic in our opinion and do not impact gameplay, but they had to be made to avoid an Adult Only rating.”

Outlast 2 was originally refused classification here in Australia, with the Australian Classification Board confirming that the game that eventually received an R18+ classification was amended.

Curiously, Red Barrels said that wasn’t the case, stating, “The original submission of Outlast 2 sent to the Australian Classification Branch contained the final game code and a video file for reference taken from an Alpha version of the game.”

Looks like there was content removed… or, at the very least, the content was removed ahead of final submissions. At any rate, it’s back in the PC version now.

The patch also adds in a Story mode, making it easier to survive the game and take in its narrative.

Outlast 2 is available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
