NVidia reportedly planning resurrection of GeForce RTX 3060 manufacturing

Cheaper is better... and gets out of the way of AI slop.

NVidia is reportedly planning the resurrection of its GeForce RTX 3060 GPU manufacturing pipeline in the face of DRAM shortages caused by the force-feeding of AI onto consumers by major corporations.

NVidia’s current GeForce RTX 5060 uses GDDR7 memory, which is in high demand as the AI sector is keen to use said hardware to upscale and build data centres. The demand has lead to reports that PC suppliers like Dell, ASUS, and Acer will likely increase pricing as a response to DRAM shortages. Wccftech explains the current climate far better than I ever could.

Wccftech was also the outlet that found a report by Twitter user @hongxing2020, a solid informant with what the outlet calls “a solid track record with NVIDIA GPU updates and production plans.” The original report states that NVidia has informed its partners that it will resurrect production of the GeForce 3060 GPU in Q1 of this year.

The GeForce 3060, the most popular graphics card used by Steam users, doesn’t use GDDR7 memory, and could therefore be a cost-effective way in which PC gamers could update their rigs. It’s unclear if NVidia will offer both a 12GB (192-bit) and 8GB (128-bit) variant of the RTX 3060.

We’ll keep you informed as the situation progresses.
