Nintendo’s Iwata currently recovering from major surgery

Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata is recovering from a surgery last week that removed a bile duct growth, the company reported.

The surgery is the reason why Iwata missed this year’s E3. Iwata will also miss the company’s upcoming annual shareholders meeting.

“I was counseled that removal at an early stage would be the desirable medical option,” Iwata said in a letter explaining the surgery. “Therefore I had surgery last week, and I came through it well as predicted.

“I have already resumed business by email and other means, but it is anticipated that a little more time is needed for me to return to my regular work schedule.”

Despite the surgery, Iwata still kicked Nintendo of America’s Fils-Aime during a pre-recorded E3 conference.

Nintendo’s annual general shareholders meeting will take place 27 June.
