Nintendo: The Switch will not be backwards compatible

Speaking with Time, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima has confirmed the Nintendo Switch will not be backwards compatible.

“Switch is not backward compatible with games designed for other systems, and is not currently compatible with controllers designed for other systems,” Kimishima said.

“Support for certain controllers may be considered for a future update,” he added.

Previously, the Wii U was backwards compatible with older Wii titles, and the Wii itself backwards compatible with GameCube discs.

Nintendo has yet to confirm Virtual Console availibility on their upcoming system, available in stores from 3 March.
