Nintendo Switch Sports servers offline

Offline play or bust.

Nintendo Switch Sports servers are offline and the rollout of the game’s 1.2.1 has also been suspended, Nintendo advised over the weekend.

“A bug has been found in the [Nintendo Switch Sports] Ver1.2.1 update which causes the software to close during the pre-match loading screen,” Nintendo said on Twitter. “This is unfortunately affecting both online and offline play modes. We have therefore temporarily suspended the rollout of this update.

“While we investigate to find a solution, [Nintendo Switch Sports] servers will be temporarily taken offline and online play will not be available during this time,” Nintendo continued. “Save data backup is also temporarily suspended. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”

No further update has been provided, but we’ll keep you informed as we learn more.

Update: Switch Sports will receive two updates within the next two days to rectify problems. The first is due today and the second on 20 October; by that second patch, Nintendo believes both online play and save file backups will be fixed.

Moreover, Nintendo has advised that impacted players will receive an extra week of Nintendo Switch Online for their troubles, and that extra points will be accrued in-game between 18 October to 3 November.

Nintendo Switch Sports is available on — you guessed it — Nintendo Switch. We reviewed it here.
