Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy emulators found in datamine

Rejoice!?

Nintendo Switch Online will reportedly offer Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games via new emulators found in a datamine.

Information from dataminers Trash_Bandicoot and OatmealDome have revealed two emulators developed by Nintendo Europe Research & Development. One emulator codenamed Hiyoko is for Game Boy titles, while Sloop handles Game Boy Advance.

Trash_Bandicoot says that the emulators are “both functional, albeit with a few bugs,” while OatmealDome adds that Hiyoko “appears to have netplay support for link cables.”

User MondoMega has gone a step further, listing Game Boy Advance titles that are being tested inside Sloop. They include the likes of Castlevania Circle of the Moon, Fire Emblem the Sacred Stones, F-Zero Maximum Velocity, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, Mario Gold Advance Tour, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion and many more.

The two emulators have been rumored to be in development for sometime.

At present, NES and Super Nintendo titles are available inside the base level of Nintendo Switch Online. Newer N64 or Sega Mega Drive/Genesis titles require the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription. It’s unclear where Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles would sit in Nintendo’s current model.
