Nintendo has “not fallen behind” on online or VR, says Miyamoto

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto says the company has not “fallen behind” on online play or VR.

“We have not fallen behind with either VR or network services,” Miyamoto said in a recent investor Q&A. “We worked on them from the very beginning, and have been experimenting with them in a variety of ways.

“In that time, we have objectively evaluated whether they actually allow our consumers to have an enjoyable play experience, and whether we can operate them at an appropriate cost. Because we don’t publicize this until we release a product, it may look like we’re falling behind.”

Nintendo’s online offering is currently in the form of Nintendo Switch Online, a service that offers multiplayer and networked NES titles. VR is offered through a Labo kit.

Do you think Miyamoto’s statement holds up? Why or why not?
