NHL 17: Draft Champions brings fantasy hockey to gamers

EA Vancouver today released a new video that shows off NHL 17‘s new Draft Champions mode.

You can check it out below:

As Stevivor found out at Gamescom, the mode is like a fantasy sports player’s dream, allowing the chance to pick a squad and see how it performs over 12 rounds of play.

Draft Champions mirrors gameplay seen in similar modes inside Madden NFL 16 and FIFA 16; with a team selected, players will be able to take on other user’s squads, online, in single- or double-elimination series. Rewards come in the form of items and in-game currency for NHL 17‘s Hockey Ultimate Team mode.

From the video above — and from what we learned at Gamescom — NHL 17‘s Draft Champions will let you draft players based on certain themes — hockey eras or similar skill traits were two examples used. You can find out more about the mode here.

NHL 17 heads to Xbox One and PS4 this month.
