Next Need for Speed delayed as Criterion helps with Battlefield

Criterion is needed elsewhere.

The next Need for Speed game has been delayed as EA has told developer Criterion that it needs to back up DICE on the next Battlefield title.

The news comes from EA Chief Studios Officer, Laura Miele, who told Polygon of the publisher’s shifting priorities.

“There’s no way we would have made a decision like this without including [Criterion Games] and discussing this with them first, and the impact that they could have on [Battlefield],” Miele said. “They’ve worked on Battlefront, they’ve worked on [previous] Battlefields, and they have a really tight, close collaborative partnership with DICE. I’m really confident that this is going to be a pretty positive win for them.”

The next Battlefield is scheduled for release in the second half of this year. The next Need for Speed title has now been delayed into 2022.
