New Suicide Squad game video focuses on story, not live service aspects

The real question here: are you buying it?

A new twenty-minute deep dive into Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League has a focus on story and characters and has shied away from any monetisation or games as a service aspects.

The video is all about the actual narrative of the Suicide Squad game, in which our rag tag group of villians need to hunt down superheroes under the control of the nefarious Brainiac. It also details how some of these lesser villains can actually go head-to-head with the likes of The Flash, Superman and Batman.

According to Rocksteady, the Suicide Squad break into the Hall of Justice museum to power up — Harley Quinn steals Batman’s grapple gun, Captain Boomerang grab’s Doctor Sivana’s Speed Force Gauntlet and Deadshot takes Gizmo’s jetpack. Convienient how there’s something for everyone, eh? Well, apart from King Shark.

While this does make it more clear as to how the Suicide Squad can zip through Metropolis, we’ve noted that a number of cutscenes still show the Suicide Squad with guns on their backs — something players who watched the game’s reveal trailers weren’t all that crazy about.

The video doesn’t delve into the likes of a season pass or other games as a service options, but from what we were originally seeing, they’re there. This video follows a statement by Warner Bros that suggests its going to lean heavily into games as a service, and a rumour that the upcoming Wonder Woman game will do just that.

Watch the video below with a grain of salt, and we’ll keep you posted as to how Suicide Squad is shaping up leading to its 2024 release.

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is planned for a 2 February release on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5.
