New studio from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami acquired by Stellar Blade’s Shift Up

Shift Up will publish Unbound's upcoming games.

Unbound, the new studio helmed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, has been acquired by Stellar Blade’s Shift Up. The latter, as a result, will publish the former’s upcoming titles.

“We believe we can respect each other as creators and make games together” Mikami said of the acquisition in a new blog post. “And I think with [Shift Up CEO] Hyung Tae, we can even enjoy the hard parts.

“Seeing my own vision and ideals come into focus like this, and finding someone whose direction aligns so closely is something I’ve rarely experienced before in my career,” Mikami continued. “I hope we keep building together for a long time.”

Moreover, it looks like Unbound’s first title will dabble in horror of some type; a video announcing the acquisition, above, finishes with a shot of a multi-winged monster high in the sky.

“I grew up playing games from Shinji Mikami. And to be here now working together is incredibly meaningful.” said Shift Up CEO, Hyung Tae Kim. “If a work is good, people will naturally understand its value without needing excessive praise or forced recommendations.”

We’ll have more on Unbound’s first game as more is revealed.
