New Resident Evil Requiem short better than all the franchise’s TV and movies combined

And has a sneaky guest appearance by the Nemesis.

A new three-minute live-action Resident Evil Requiem short has been published, and is arguably better than all the franchise’s previous films and TV shows (though we have faith in you, Zach Cregger!).

The short, “Evil Has Always Had A Name,” takes place in Raccoon City during the early moments of its T-Virus infection (so, near the start of Resident Evil 3, and just after that, Resident Evil 2).

The short does a fantastic job of not only recapping the events of RE 2 and 3, but giving us another Outbreak narrative, focused on ordinary citizens just trying to escape the city.

Spoiler alert: it doesn’t go so well for the mother and daughter showcased in the video. Still, this is where the short does more heavy lifting, not only reminding us that the zombies in Resident Evil used to be humans, but they may be more human that we’d like to think. This, as evidenced by what the zombies can do in Leon’s gameplay, seems to be a big theme of Requiem.

As a big bonus, eagle-eyed viewers will also be able to spot Resident Evil 3‘s (former titular) antagonist, the Nemesis, around the 1:30 mark of the video. If you’re struggling, keep your eyes trained on the rear of the police car. And, if you listen closely, you can also hear his trademark “S.T.A.R.S.” growl. Neato!

Resident Evil Requiem heads to Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, and Switch 2 from 27 February 2026. We just previewed the title on Switch 2 here. The Zach Cregger reference we made before? Well, the director of Barbarian and Weapons is trying his hand at a Resident Evil movie next…
