New NHL 25 gameplay trailer shows off AI

And fans are mixed about it...

A new NHL 25 gameplay trailer was released overnight and was heavily focussed on the title’s new ICE-Q AI system.

While the yearly hockey title’s AI impressed some, others weren’t as easily convinced.

“AI cuts off the puck carrier entering the zone less than 20 seconds into the game,” reads one post on Reddit, which also embedded a video showing an AI-controller New Jersey Devil skating directly into the path of a human-controlled character on the blue line.

“The AI gets out of the way more,” reads a comment from another. “I’ve seen very little of those awkward groupings where dudes seem stuck to each other, or computer players block your path and won’t get out of the way.”

Outside of AI, commenters seemed to focus on revised goal celebrations. While some praised that they’ve been cut down, others likened them to over-the-top Fortnite-like dances.

Take a look at the video for yourself — featuring influencer Nasher alongside cover athletes Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes, Luke Hughes — and let us know what you think.

NHL 25 heads to Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5 on 5 October here in Australia; those who purchase its Deluxe Edition will gain access from 28 September.
