A new Mass Effect in production, continues on from main trilogy

Update: While we knew a new Mass Effect was in development at BioWare — and is in an incredibly early stage, at that — it’s now been confirmed the title will be a continuation of the main Mass Effect trilogy rather than Mass Effect Andromeda.

The news comes from a new teaser trailer dropped at last week’s Game Awards. You can check it out below.

Original story [8 Nov 2020]: A new Mass Effect game is in production, EA and BioWare today confirmed. At the moment, it’s unclear if the title is a continuation of 2017’s beleaguered Mass Effect Andromeda.

“Here at BioWare, a veteran team has been hard at work envisioning the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe,” BioWare’s Casey Hudson wrote.

“We are in early stages on the project and can’t say any more just yet, but we’re looking forward to sharing our vision for where we’ll be going next.”

The post was accompanied by a piece of artwork — above — which seems to indicate the vehicle shown inside it is called a “mud skipper”.

Andromeda proved polarising in critical circles, though Stevivor didn’t run into any of the technical issues encountered by many. We were enamoured with its story and characters… and if you ask us, we’d like to see what happens next.

We’ll have more on the next Mass Effect as information becomes available. EA and BioWare also announced that Mass Effect Legendary Edition, a bundle of Mass Effect 1-3 on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4, is coming next year.
