NES Joy-Cons are perfect for Nintendo Switch Online’s NES offerings

Update: Nintendo has recently confirmed that these special NES controllers will only be available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.

“Limit one purchase per Nintendo Account with paid Nintendo Switch Online individual or family membership. Offer not available for trial membership,” the Joy-Cons’ specific page reads.

Original story: Nintendo today confirmed special NES Joy-Cons that celebrate the return of NES games via the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Nintendo Switch Online launches next week and includes:

  • Online play in titles that support it (including the likes of Splatoon 2, ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Tennis Aces.)
  • 20 Nintendo Entertainment System Classics, including Super Mario Bros. 3, The Legend of Zelda and Dr. Mario. Each titles has newly added online play.
  • Save Data Cloud backup for select titles.
  • Access to the Nintendo Switch smartphone app.

Pricing has been set at $5.95 AUD for one month, $11.95 AUD for three months or $29.95 AUD for a year. A Family Membership costs $54.95 AUD for a year. The service is opt-in only — Nintendo has confirmed that “Nintendo Switch owners will not be automatically charged when the service launches in the second half of September.”
