Need for Speed dev Criterion to focus on Battlefield instead

Cool?

Need for Speed developer Criterion will focus on Battlefield, with just a “core group” at the studio remaining work on the longtime racing franchise.

The refocus means that most at Criterion will shift to EA Entertainment rather than the recently split EA Sports.

“I’m thrilled to have a studio with such pedigree join the studios I oversee,” Battlefield head Vince Zampella said in a statement. “As we’ve said before, we’re all-in on Battlefield. Today, Criterion is added to our world-class Battlefield studios dedicated to ushering in a new era for the franchise.”

Zampella also confirmed that EA studios DICE, Ripple Effect and Ridgeline will work on the franchise, lead by general manager Byron Beede.

“Criterion’s experience with Battlefield, our technology and building engaging experiences will have an immediate positive impact as we continue to work on Battlefield 2042, and as we continue pre-production on a connected Battlefield Universe,” Zampella continued. “There is no better studio to join us on this journey and I couldn’t be more excited.”

Battlefield 2042 is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5; we reviewed it here.
