My Nintendo Gold Points program to be phased out from March

Ruh roh.

The My Nintendo Gold Points program will be phased out from March 2025, Nintendo has today advised.

From 9.30 pm PDT on 24 March 2025 — or 4.30 pm AEDT on 25 March here in Australia — users will no longer be able to earn My Nintendo Gold Point on purchases. This limitation will be placed on digital game purchases from that time, alongside physical games that release after that same period.

For titles released before 24 March (or 25 March here in Australia), “Gold Points may still be earned by registering eligible titles within one year from the original release date of the game,” Nintendo advised.

All My Nintendo Gold Points held by users will be “valid and redeemable for 12 months after they are issued,” Nintendo added, adding that “You will still be able to earn Platinum Points, even after March 24, 2025.”

While Platinum Points are largely used for Switch Online avatars and My Nintendo physical rewards, Gold Points can be used to reduce the price of new game and new DLC purchases. Sad face.

Nintendo didn’t provide a reason for the discontinuation of the My Nintendo Gold Points program. That said, Nintendo also confirmed that popular “Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers cannot be redeemed for games exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 system.”
