Most of Far Cry’s source code has been leaked online

Outpost compromised.

Most of the original Far Cry‘s source code has leaked online.

As first discovered by Twitter’s Vinicius Mederios (link here, but you mightn’t want to click if you’re saving up your rationed tweet count for the day), a majority of the source code for Far Cry — titled “Far Cry 1.34 Complete” — has made its way onto the Internet Archive.

One user on the Internet Archive (via Eurogamer) believes the code to be “close” to complete.

“It does contain some .exes but no Xbox code and no game assets,” they continued. “The code that is there doesn’t compile without 332 errors (I could have the dev env setup wrong too). So, I think you could get some debug PC version of this game running if you put in the effort and learnt the code base.”

The original Far Cry was developed by Crytek using CryEngine and was released in March 2004.
