Miyamoto: Nintendo to unveil a new franchise after Mario Kart 8’s release

In an interview with Famitsu (as translated by Kotaku), Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has said he’s at work on a “new franchise” that will be released in 2014 after Mario Kart 8.

Without revealing too much, Miyamoto said that after Mario Kart 8 is released, it’d be a great time for Nintendo to release their new franchise.

Not a sequel. Not a rehash. A new “franchise,” which may or may not mean new IP altogether.

It’s unclear if Miyamoto’s new franchise will be released on the 3DS or the Wii U. Nintendo has been experimenting with new, minor releases on the Nintendo eShop for close to two years.

Are you excited about the prospect of a new Nintendo game that’s not Mario, Pokemon, Zelda or Donkey Kong?
