Metal Gear Survive secret message honours Kojima Productions

A secret message hidden within Metal Gear Survive seems to honour series creator Hideo Kojima and his studio Kojima Productions.

The message is early on in the game; after entering in your own character’s name, you’re shown a clipboard with your selection alongside a host of other names. Users on both Twitter and Reddit have realised the names hold a secret — if you take the first letter of each surname on the page, it spells out “KJP Forever”, or “Kojima Productions Forever” if the interpretation is correct.

More damning, two characters listed as AWOL — Bastard Yota and Cunning Yuji — share the same first names as Survive Director Yota Tsutsumizaki and Producer Yuji Korekado. Don’t hold back, jilted developers.

The special easter egg seems to support Kojima and his new studio; tension between the creator and the publisher seemed to escalate back in 2015, with Kojima eventually leaving to work on Death Stranding for Sony. A day after Kojima’s departure, Konami announced it was working on Survive.

Metal Gear: Survive is being slammed as a cheap cash-in on Konami’s part — the game even makes you pony up $10 to start a second character. It’s available now on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
