Marvel Rivals stamps out mods (including a nude Venom)

Just say no to unofficial knob.

Marvel Rivals Season 1 has not only introduced The Invisible Woman and Mr Fantastic, but has stamped out unofficial mods too.

While a number of mods were in good fun — including Goku in place of Spider-Man, Vegeta in place of Iron Man, and Thomas the Tank Engine in place of Jeff the Land Shark — others were not. That latter category includes the likes of Donald Trump as Captain America, and a nude Venom complete with a very large penis.

Mod hoster Nexus mods took down the Trump mod itself, reminding users that it has a site-wide ban on “cowards with sock puppet accounts” uploading “provocative and troll mods” based on United States socio-political issues. It reminded users that it has already banned similar Marvel Rivals mods featuring the likes of Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

Speaking with IGN, developer NetEase confirmed it has done away with mods, also reminding players that they’re “not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned.”

In better news for Marvel Rivals players, the free-to-play shooter hit a new all-time Steam concurrent player count peak of 644,269 at the launch of Season 1, so it’s extremely easy to jump in and find a game.

Full Season 1 patch notes can be found here.

Marvel Rivals is out now on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5. You can access a free — legit — Iron Man costume thanks to this code.
