Mario Sports trade mark filed by Nintendo in Australia, Europe

Trade mark filings for Mario Sports were recently made by Nintendo in both Europe and Australia, it was recently discovered.

Both trade mark filings were discovered by Twitter’s NiXiE, who speculated (translated from Spanish) that  “it could be another of the Mario games arriving this year to celebrate the 35th anniversary.”

Both the Aussie trade mark filing and the European trade mark filing were made on 14 May and cover “electronic game programs; downloadable electronic game programs; video game programs; downloadable video game programs; video game cartridges” and more.

The Twitter user is referring to rumours that a host of old Mario games will be resurrected on Switch as a way to celebrate the franchise. Games rumoured to be released on Switch include Super Mario Galaxy and more.

The last Mario Sports title was the 3DS’ Mario Sports Superstars in 2017. We’ve asked Nintendo Australia for comment on the filing.
