Mario Kart World coming at Switch 2 launch, priced at $120 AUD

Tonight’s Switch 2 Nintendo Direct kicked off with a proper look at the upcoming Mario Kart World.

It all looks like standard Mario Kart fare, really, and its initial wordless, voiceless trailer didn’t do much to detail what enhancements the Switch 2 would bring.

A second trailer detailed that the almost open-world title will offer up changes to races based on different times of the day. Races will be between 24 racers.

A new mode called Knockout Tour will challenge players to race from one corner of the world to the other, with multiple checkpoints. If you’re under-delivering at a specific checkpoint, almost battle royale style, you’ll be out for that race. Maybe next time.

Offroad driving will also be available, as will scenic drives with friends. A photo mode will let you appease that inner shutterbug.

Finally, it’s also been confirmed that the Switch 2 exclusive racer will be the first to hike up the price of Nintendo’s first-party offerings — it’s been confirmed that Mario Kart World will set players back $119.95 AUD here in Australia.

More details of Mario Kart World will be soon; the title will be available at the launch of the Switch 2: 5 June 2025.
