Mario gets a stupidly patriotic stars and stripes alternate costume for Super Smash Bros.

Sorry, American readers, but this is just lame.

Days after Independence Day, America’s national holiday where fireworks and gunfire celebrates the birth of their great nation, Nintendo’s advised that Mario’s getting a USA-themed alternate costume in Super Smash Bros.

Take a look at it in closer detail:

See? Now that’s just wrong.

What other alternate costumes would you have preferred for the character?

Super Smash Bros. is heading to 3DS in October and on Wii U for Christmas.

Update: Friend of the site, Vook, reminds us that the costume was part of the old NES game NES Open. That doesn’t make it any less wrong.
