Lower Decks’ McMahan to helm animated Golden Axe TV series

Interesting...

Star Trek Lower Decks helm Mike McMahan will co-executive produce an animated Golden Axe TV series alongside American Dad‘s Joe Chandler, it was today announced.

“In a hilarious and loving homage to Sega’s 1989 video game series, Golden Axe follows veteran warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they once again battle to save Yuria from the evil giant Death Adder who just won’t seem to stay dead,” Comedy Central said in a press release. “Fortunately, this time they have the inexperienced and underprepared Hampton Squib on their side.”

Golden Axe will feature the vocal talents of Matthew Rhys (The Americans, Perry Mason) as Gilius Thunderhead, Danny Pudi (Mythic Quest, Community) as Hampton Squib, Lisa Gilroy (Jury Duty, Interior Chinatown) as Tyris Flare, and Aussie Liam McIntyre (Spartacus, Gears 4).

Sadly, we also learned that Star Trek Lower Decks has been cancelled; its fifth season will be its last.

Golden Axe is by CBS Studios in association with Sony Pictures Television and Original Film. We don’t have details of an airdate as yet.
