Lord of the Rings Gollum’s Daedalic closes dev side

Daedalic will focus on publishing in the future.

The Lord of the Rings Gollum will close its development wing after the failure of the licensed title, focusing on publishing moving forward.

The news comes from German site GamesWirtschaft, which reports that Daedalic’s Hamburg dev studio will close, impacting 25 of 90 employees.

Daedalic said it would work to try to place impacted employees in new positions.

Speaking with Polygon, Daedalic did say that The Lord of the Rings didn’t meet expectations; this news is likely connected. A second title in the Lord of the Rings universe has been cancelled as the result of Gollum‘s performance; an additional patch to alleviate issues is still on the way.

The Lord of the Rings Gollum was released back in May of this year.
