Leon playable in Resident Evil Requiem, features in new trailer

"Fake news," eh Capcom?

Update: Surprising absolutely no one, Leon has today been confirmed in Resident Evil Requiem.

You can check him out in action via the new Game Awards 2025 trailer, below.

“Resident Evil Requiem is now available for pre-order,” Capcom said alongside the new trailer. “Experience terrifying survival horror with FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, and dive into pulse-pounding action with legendary agent Leon S. Kennedy. Both of their journeys and unique gameplay styles intertwine into a heart-stopping, emotional experience that will chill you to your core.”

Original story: Resident Evil Requiem will feature RE2, RE4, and RE6 protagonist Leon S. Kennedy, its PS5 cover art has today confirmed.

Twitter user SpookyHoo first noticed the game’s updated cover art, taking to Twitter and showing off Leon’s pretty face via his pre-downloads screen. Since then, others — including this outlet, have confirmed the image is real. In it, you can see Leon’s large looming face positioned behind the back of fellow protagonist Grace Ashcroft.

You can see a portion of that cover art above.

Earlier this week, a GameStop listing stated that Resident Evil Village‘s Rose Winters would appear in-game; previously, Leon’s name appeared alongside a listing of in-game bonus items. Could Rose be a placeholder for Leon in this new instance, or will we have three protagonists inside Requiem? Time will tell… and we’ll most likely find out during this week’s Game Awards on Thursday night, Los Angeles-time.

Last month, Capcom’s Masato Kumazawa called one very specific “leak” of Leon appearing in Requiem as “fake news”.

“Considering that now is the time when AI [can be used to make] videos and photos, we don’t know what’s right or what’s wrong,” Kumazawa told us. “It’s just that players are free to believe what they would like to believe; what I’d like to tell is that, please, unless it’s officially released from Capcom, we can’t give you any confirmation.

“There has been a photo lately of Leon with an eye patch, and just basically saying there’s a DLC or a new costume for Leon — but just to make sure, these are all fake news,” Kumazawa told us.

Expect Resident Evil Requiem from 27 February 2026 on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, and Switch 2.
