League of Legends’ new character overly sexualised, admits Riot

League of Legends developer Riot Games has admitted that it’s unintentionally made its newest character, Kai’Sa, “unnecessarily sexualized.”

Despite a promise to refrain from adding “hyper sexualized” characters to the game, Riot now admits that it “could’ve done better” when it comes to Kai’Sa and her plunging neckline.

“We’ll be the first to admit that Kai’Sa’s neckline didn’t land well with players and that it made her look unnecessarily sexualized, even if it that wasn’t the intention,” Lead Producer, Ryan Mireles, wrote in a recent update.

“Even though we had good intentions, we could’ve done better, and in the future, we will be even more conscious of these decisions.”

Mireles said the character’s deep neckline was to show off skin, but not meant in a sexualised manner. Rather, the showing of skin was to drive home the point that Kai’Sa was a human character, not a void monster.

“In retrospect, we recognize we should’ve prioritized searching for other ways to solve this problem, especially because the end result didn’t land well for many players,” Mireles offered.

Despite the admission, Riot hasn’t pledged to amend the character of Kai’Sa as yet.

League of Legends is available now on Windows PC.
