Lack of Square Enix in Astro Bot “difficult to comment on”

Mum's the word.

Team Asobi has said that it’s “difficult to comment on” the lack of Square Enix characters inside Astro Bot.

Speaking with Stephen Totilo, Asobi head Nicolas Doucet said that the studio hoped for “maybe half” of their bot inclusions to be approved by rights holders, and that most “partners just raised their hand and said, ‘absolutely’.”

In fact, Doucet said that “almost 100%” of requested character cameos were approved.

Turning to the lack of Square Enix characters including Final Fantasy 7‘s Cloud, Doucet wouldn’t provide definitive answers.

“It’s difficult to comment on [Square Enix’s approvals],” Doucet said. “We really respect the choice of each publisher.”

Though he certainly did not get to decide about protagonist Deacon’s inclusion in Astro Bot, Days Gone director John Garvin said the act was akin to having “a cartoon shill”.

Astro Bot is currently available on PS5.
