IGN Editor-in-Chief Steve Butts fired over “alleged misconduct”

IGN Editor-in-Chief, Steve Butts, has been fired over “alleged misconduct.”

“IGN initiated an investigation into alleged misconduct involving Steve Butts. As a result of the investigation, the Company has appropriately determined to part ways with Mr. Butts,” IGN Executive Vice President, Mitch Galbraith, confirmed with Polygon via statement.

In November 2017, Kotaku reported that Kallie Plagge, an editor at Gamespot, made allegations of “manipulative and abusive comments” made by Butts during her time at the outlet.

“The harassment (and horribly mishandled HR investigation) was a major factor in leaving IGN,” she wrote. “I have carried the disgust, fear, and disrespect with me since.”

Peer Schneider will serve as IGN’s interim Editor-in-Chief while a permanent replacement is found.

“It’ll be however long it takes to get it right,” Schneider said told Polygon. “I’m lucky to have a team of seasoned editorial and video leaders I can rely on while I search for the best person for the job.”
