Hideo Kojima to be honoured by The Game Awards after Konami banned him from last year’s event

The Game Awards 2016 will honour Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, just one year after the developer was prohibited from attending the awards by publisher Konami.

“As you noticed Hideo Kojima is not here tonight,” host Geoff Keighley said at last year’s awards. “Mr. Kojima had every intention of being here, but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight’s award ceremony to accept any awards.”

This year, that ban doesn’t exist.

Kojima officially left Konami late last year to start new projects after months of in-fighting. He’s currently working on Death Stranding, a title that reunites him with Silent Hills‘ Norman Reedus.

Kojima will be in Australia next year for RTX Sydney.
