Helldivers 2 install size on Steam reduced by 85%

Arrowhead, well done!

Helldivers 2‘s install size on PC via Steam has been reduced by 85%, from around 154GB to only 23GB, developer Arrowhead has today announced.

“We are happy to report that, thanks to our partners at Nixxes, we have reached [the goal of a reduced install size] much sooner than expected,” Arrowhead said in an update over on Steam.

“By completely de-duplicating our data, we were able to reduce the PC installation size from ~154GB to ~23GB, for a total saving of ~131GB (~85%).”

The reduced install has been run through internal testing, with Arrowhead confirming it’s now ready “to roll this out to early adopters as a public technical beta”.

Better still, good news for those not on an SSD: “Our testing shows that for the small percentage of players still using mechanical hard disk drives, mission loading times have only increased by a few seconds in the worst cases,” Arrowhead said.

Enjoy that upcoming 131GB of storage space, PC gamers!

Helldivers 2 is currently available on Windows PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.
