Harry Potter’s Jason Isaacs joins the cast of Star Trek: Discovery

Harry Potter‘s Jason Issacs has been cast as the captain of Star Trek: Discovery‘s titular starship, the U.S.S. Discovery.

Issacs joins the cast as Captain Lorca, working alongside Michelle Yeoh, who plays Captain Georgiou of the U.S.S. Shenzhou.

Despite their rank, neither captain will be the focus of Discovery — that honour goes to Sonequa Martin-Green, cast as the Discovery’s Number One. This is the first time a Star Trek series will place its primary focus on a character other than the leading command officer.

Isaacs joins a long list of already confirmed cast members, including:

  • Mary Wiseman (Longmire) as Tilly, a Starfleet Academy Cadet
  • James Frain (Gotham) as Spock’s father, Sarek
  • Doug Jones (Hellboy) as Lt. Saru, a Starfleet Science Officer
  • Anthony Rapp (Rent) as Lt. Stamets, a gay Starfleet Science Officer

Star Trek: Discovery is now expected in later winter. It’ll air on Netflix here in Australia.
