Gotham Knights has “redesigned” combat to suit multiplayer

But tries to retain the Batman Arkham franchise flavour.

Gotham Knights, the upcoming multiplayer title featuring Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood and Robin, will feature “entirely redesigned” combat to suit co-op play, developer WB Games Montreal has confirmed.

“We have entirely redesigned the combat system in order for it to work well in co-op,” Executive Producer, Fleur Marty, told GamesRadar. “Of course, we’re still a brawler, and some of the mechanics won’t feel totally alien for people who played and enjoyed the Arkham series, but it is in many ways very different.”

As detailed during the game’s August 2020 reveal, Gotham Knights will feature drop-in, drop-out combat and players will be able to freely switch between characters in between missions. Thankfully, levelling and progression are tied to the player and not characters themselves.

“Since the story progression is shared between all the characters, it also makes sense that you don’t have to level them up from scratch every time you want to switch. It also stays very coherent in terms of our narrative,” Marty detailed.

Gotham Knights heads to Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5 sometime in 2021.
