Genki’s never seen the Nintendo Switch 2, made a mock-up based on leaks

Cool, cool.

Peripheral maker Genki has admitted that it’s not yet seen the Nintendo Switch 2, confirming that a mock-up that it created for last week’s CES was based off of leaks.

Speaking with Game Spark (as translated by Automaton), Genki said its Switch 2 cover was created based on alleged, leaked information rather than specs from Nintendo itself. The same is true of its Switch 2 mock-up, which some media outlets have tried to pass off as the real deal.

“Only Nintendo can tell whether accessories for the Switch will be compatible with the Switch 2,” Genki said as part of its conversation with Game Spark.

Nintendo distanced itself from the mock-up and peripherals in comment to CNET Japan.

“The gaming hardware that Genki presented as Nintendo hardware at CES is unofficial and was not provided to the company by us,” a Nintendo representative said, also telling Sankei Shimbun that Genki’s materials “are not official”.

Nintendo has confirmed that its next major console will be backwards compatible with the original Switch, but that’s about it. A formal reveal is expected later this year.
