Gamescom 2020 live event cancelled, digital event will replace it

Gamescom 2020 has been cancelled as we know it, with a digital offering instead replacing one of the world’s largest gaming conventions.

Germany’s ban on public gatherings was recently extended to 31 August; Gamescom 2020 was originally slated for 25-29 August in Cologne, Germany, meaning a change was necessary.

“Even though not all details are known at present, the nationwide ban on major events until the end of August will also affect the planning for [Gamescom 2020],” organisers said in a tweet. “Furthermore: [Gamescom 2020] will definitely take place digitally! We will provide further information shortly.

We’ll have more on the new, all-digital Gamescom 2020 as details are announced.
