GameNight is Amazon Luna’s Jackbox-like, free to Prime members

Though we don't have Luna support here in Australia.

Amazon Luna is — very much in its own words — “unveil[ing] a new era of gaming for everyone” through GameNight, a Jackbox Games-like that isn’t available here in Australia.

GameNight is planned for launch in supported countries later this year, letting people play games without the need of prior experience or even a dedicated controller. Instead, a smartphone or tablet can be used to play a series of party games.

GameNight reimagines what it means to play games in the living room,” Amazon’s Jeff Gattis said in a statement. “Not only do you not need a console or gaming PC – you don’t even need a game controller! With all GameNight games, your smartphone is your controller for experiences centered around the living-room TV. In seconds, anyone in the room can join the fun simply by scanning a QR code. All GameNight games are designed to be played together with family and friends for maximum laughter and connection. Finally, a reason for parents not to tell their kids to put their phones away!”

GameNight will feature more than 25 “approachable” multiplayer games, also starting with Courtroom Chaos Starring Snoop Dogg.

Amazon — somewhat worryingly — calls the Snoop Dogg collaboration a “a human-built, AI-powered improv courtroom game,” in which “players invent outrageous characters, spin wild stories, and do whatever it takes to defend their testimonies before Judge Snoop Dogg”.

Other mini-games include the likes of “GameNight-optimized takes on… Angry Birds, Draw & Guess, Exploding Kittens and Flappy Golf Party,” alongside, “party-ready adaptations of board game hits such as Taboo, Ticket to Ride and Clue.”

GameNight mini-games, just like Luna’s overall library, will rotate in and out.

Not that it matters locally; Amazon Luna isn’t supported here in Australia. The streaming gaming service is, however, in countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Portugal, and Luxembourg. It’s bundled as part of an Amazon Prime subscription.
