Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon announced

Game of Thrones prequel called House of the Dragon has been ordered by HBO, it was today revealed.

The series will focus on House Targaryen and will be set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones itself. Co-created by A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin and Colony‘s Ryan Condal, the first season will be comprised of ten episodes. Condal will act as showrunner for the series alongside Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik.

The show will be based on George R.R. Martin’s prequel novel Fire & Blood, which recounts Targaryen history. It’s unclear when Martin will ever finish his original Song of Ice and Fire series.
