From Software’s Miyazaki: “Dark Souls is over”; dev working on new IP

Dark Souls series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has said that “Dark Souls is over”.

Speaking with GNN Gamer (as translated by NeoGAF), Miyazaki said that while From Software is working on “several DLCs” for Dark Souls III, it’s intended to be the studio’s last game in the franchise.

Miyazaki said there is “absolutely no plan right now for any sequels, spin-offs, or tie-ons,” adding that he “can’t say for certain the possibility is 0%” of another sequel. Miyazaki said From Software won’t be behind a sequel should one surface, but publisher Bandai Namco may end up handing the franchise to another studio.

“To me personally, Dark Souls is over,” Miyazaki stressed, adding that he wants From Software to “take a step to a new direction”.

“Development of a new IP has already begun,” he concluded.
