Frances Townsend steps down as ABK Women’s Network executive sponsor

The situation continues to develop.

Frances Townsend, Activision Blizzard president of corporate affairs, has removed herself as executive sponsor of the publisher’s Women’s Network.

Townsend’s stepping down has come in the wake of leaked email where she called a lawsuit filed by the Californian Department of Fair Employment and Housing a “distorted and untrue picture” of Activision Blizzard.

She was further criticised after retweeting an article titled “The Problem With Whistleblowing” in the wake of many Blizzard employees reaching out to media with stories of alleged harassment. Townsend has since deactivated her Twitter account.

Townsend remains an employee of Activision Blizzard and has told The Washington Post (via IGN) that she “believes in doing what’s right for the Network, and will continue to support and advance the work of the Network as best she can.”

We’ll keep you informed as the situation at Activision Blizzard continues.
