Fortnite might borrow Apex Legends’ revive mechanic

Fornite is looking into adding Apex Legends’ revive mechanic into its own mix, Epic Games recently stated.

As part of a Reddit AMA, Producer RZElive said that Epic was “exploring” a revive mechanic, recently seen in Respawn’s Apex Legends. In the latter game, anyone in a squad of three can retrieve the tags of a fallen squadmate; by heading over to a revive point (and essentially becoming vulnerable through the entire process), said squadmate can re-enter the game.

“We’ve been considering this mechanic for a while and have been exploring it,” RZElive said, adding that the company wants to “give it the time it needs and fully understand its impact on the game as a whole.”

The news on revives comes at the same time Epic has confirmed the Fortnite World Cup, a tournament with a $100,000,000 USD prize pool. Players can take part in ten weekly Online Open qualifiers that run between 13 April to 16 June, each with a $1,000,000 USD prize pool. The events culminate in the World Cup Finals in New York over 26-28 July; a $30,000,000 USD prize pool with be offered up to the top 100 Solo and 50 Duos teams that make the cut.
