Football Manager 2018 has players who’ll come out as gay

Football Manager 2018 will feature players who’ll come out as gay, Sports Interactive recently declared.

“Part of the reason we decided to do this is because there are gay footballers,” Game Director, Miles Jacobson, told BBC Sport.

“We know from the amount of professionals that there has to be players who are gay but feel they don’t want to come out.”

As Football Manager 2018 involves real-world and player-created footballers, only the latter will come out as gay in-game. Moreover, players in countries where being gay is illegal, such as Russia, will not come out.

Coming out of the closet will impact your club’s feed and should cause a slight increase in revenue as LGBTQ supporters change allegiance to support you and your player.

“It’s not a message that everyone is going to see in their game,” Jacobson advised. “It is quite rare, but we want it to be seen as a positive thing.”

There are very few out gay footballers, and none in the current Premiere League. Perhaps the most notable gay footballer of late is Robbie Rogers of the LA Galaxy.

Football Manager 2018 heads to Windows PC and Linux on 10 November.
