Final Fantasy XV: New Game Plus update now live; here’s how it works

A 3GB update to Final Fantasy XV today brings New Game Plus to the popular RPG alongside new photo frames for Prompto.

While the latter is pretty easy to understand, New Game Plus is a little tricky.

Choosing New Game+ mode

  • Download the update (obviously).
  • From the main menu, select New Game+
  • Select New Game+ as your difficulty level. This is extremely important, as you’ll lose your progress choosing anything else.
  • Play from there.

While the difficulty may sound scary, it’s not any harder than before. You’ll probably find the start of the game a breeze.

What carries over?

A lot of your stuff from your first playthrough carries over into your second.

  • Experience
  • Levels — Photography, Survival, Fishing and Cooking
  • Ascension Skills
  • Clothing
  • Weapons
  • Royal Arms
  • Accessories
  • Items
  • Gil
  • Spells
  • Recipes
  • Chocobos
  • Regalia customisation

What doesn’t carry over?

  • The Regalia Type-F
  • The Engine Blade weapon
  • Quest progression

Final Fantasy XV also gets holiday-themed DLC in the coming days. Read our review of the title, available on Xbox One and PS4, here.
