Development on Final Fantasy XV has hit two major milestones, according to Programmer Satoshi Kitade.
Writing in the title’s Japanese forums (and translated by Gematsu), Kitade revealed that Final Fantasy XV is now playable from start to finish and that the first half of the title is finished to the quality of the final product.
Kitade revealed, “We’re at the point where we can play the game in its entirety from start to finish. From this, everyone on the development team can get an overall view on the game.” Kitade added that the studio is now focused on optimisation, adjusting gameplay elements and working towards completing the title to the best standards possible.
He also wrote, “The first half of the game is finished with the quality of a final product, and you get the sense you’re playing it in its final form.”
Development on Final Fantasy XV began in 2006 when it was initially a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis spin-off series, which includes Final Fantasy XIII (and its sequels), Type-0 and Agito.
Final Fantasy XV will be available for PS4 and Xbox One in 2016.
