Final Fantasy XIV: Next expansion is called “Stormblood”; PS3 support ends

Square Enix used the Final Fantasy Fan Festival to reveal the next expansion for Final Fantasy XIV: “Stormblood”.

Taking place in the new Ala Mhigo zone, “Stormblood” will focus on the Monk class.

“The main concept is getting Ala Mhigo back into Eorzean control from the Garlean empire,: Game Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida said as part of the reveal.

The content will raise the game’s level cap from 60 to 70, and include new primals, a fourth residential area and changes to skills.

“We’re regrouping and re-categorizing skills so they’re categorized as roles rather than jobs,” Yoshida added. “From those shared roll skills and actions, you’ll choose which you need.”

“Stormblood” is planned for a winter release here in Australia. “Stormblood” will also mark the point at which PS3 support is discontinued for the popular MMO.

Final Fantasy XIV‘s “Stormblood” expansion will be available on PS4 and Windows PC.
