Fair warning, though: it employs AI.
Fall of an Empire is a Melbourne-made strategy game from solo developer Joe Gibbs, and it comes out next week.
“As Emperor of a crumbling realm, hold back collapse in this grand strategy epic. Fall of an Empire has you balance deadly politics, manage resources, and command battles to survive invasions and intrigue in a vast, Roman-inspired world,” Gibbs’ JG Games said of the title.
“The empire is dying. You’ve seized the throne. Survival is victory. Seize control of an ailing empire, clinging to echoes of its former glory. Unlike traditional grand strategy games of expansion and conquest, Fall of an Empire challenges you to manage an empire on the brink of collapse. Face invading barbarian hordes, manage internal revolts, and engage in relentless political intrigue.”
Fair warning though, as JB Games has disclosed that AI is employed within the game.
“The game features a small local language model used to generate dynamic storylines and events based on character traits and relationships,” the disclosure statement reads. “Generative AI is also used to assist in the creation of various 2D textures, marketing materials, portraits and UI elements.”
If you like what you’re seeing, you can expect Fall of an Empire from 26 February on Windows PC via Steam.
