Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian has confirmed it’s using generative AI in the development of its upcoming title, Divinity, but none of that AI-produced content will ultimately appear in-game.
Speaking with Bloomberg, Vincke said that, “at this point everyone at the company is more or less OK with the way we’re using it.”
According to the CEO, generative AI will be used to brainstorm, create PowerPoint presentations, and develop both concept art and placeholder text. He stressed that none of that AI-generated content will make it into Divinity.
“Everything is human actors; we’re writing everything ourselves,” he told the outlet.
“I think a lot of founders have the same problem,” Vincke continued. “I have to be large, otherwise I can’t make my video game. With growth suddenly comes a whole bunch of responsibilities that you didn’t necessarily think you were ever gonna have, but you have them and then you make the best of them. Size exposes you to new problems that you couldn’t imagine existed.”
Update: Vincke has responded to backlash that has been generated in response to his interview, telling IGN, “we are neither releasing a game with any AI components, nor are we looking at trimming down teams to replace them with AI.
